Been busy

Well, that's not exactly true. Been out meeting people and when I'm in, I'm stupid with jet-lag and haven't much felt like posting.

But I'm still here. I'm trying to get used to Paris. Last night I think I hit the expatriate wall; I just all of a sudden was tired of smoky restaurants and speaking French and, oddly for me, tired of explaining what it is that I do. All in all I was pretty cranky last night. And it doesn't help that I haven't been waking up in the morning; that can't be helping the jet-lag, but it sure feels nice to sleep in.

Before I left I got myself a ring that has a compass on it (a silver ring, not one of the plastic jobs). And it is brilliant. It's invaluable when I come out of the Metro and need to know which way to turn, and even when I'm trying to match the map to the real world, because Paris is definitely a city of streets at strange angles.

Tomorrow I go in to work for the first time, and attempt to get on an appropriate schedule. I'm actually itching to do some writing and of course some talking to people.
