Saturday morning

Good morning! It's a lovely sunny morning, a bit cool, but I guess fall is here.

So an email this morning tells me I can get my birth certificate translated by this Friday. Fine. Nothing else particularly is waiting on that.

I got a nice letter from the CNRS about medical/social security things. It generated three more errands for me, two of them for two separate medical visits to two separate doctors.

My friends D and S are getting into town this morning, I think I'll let them sleep for a day before getting in touch with them.

Today I'm going to do some organizizing and some wandering around looking at neighborhoods, see that apartment (though there seem to be a lot of people looking at it...). The guy I met last night has a friend with an apartment in the 11th and she's looking to move; it would mean metro to the RER for my commute, but interesting and not expensive, so I want to take a look at that too. I also got a lot of listings from a group that helps scientists, courtesy of S at the office of helping foreigners at the university.

Today for fun I want to go to my favorite store in Paris, which is actually a Japanese store that I first encountered in London: Muji. Not that I have anywhere to put things yet!

Some random musings about my life in Paris so far...

My life is a lot smokier. Though some restaurants seem to have non-smoking sections, and they are well-populated. But it's hard to avoid the smoke. For that matter, my life involves a lot more hanging out in cafes and restaurants. And inevitably, a lot more drinking. But a lot less eating. Too busy to eat between meals.

I'm walking a lot more, so my feet are getting used to that; combined with the eating less, I've already lost some weight and my clothes now fit me. Hooray!

I spend a lot of time on the metro/buses/RER.

I really, really, really want a bank account and a phone, perhaps more than I want an apartment even. And I really want an apartment.

It's nice to get back to work, even the little I've been doing. And it's nice to have people to work with.

I don't know, yesterday was just a rather happy day. :)
