I now have a lectricity! I have several, in fact.
The guy who came to turn it on did, it seems, much more than just flick a switch; there was a lot of "putain!" involved (that's the quintessential French swear, just think of pasta puttanesca...). Then at the end he was trying to explain to me what the issue was, and there is something about it being provisional for a month, but when I wanted him to write down for me what the problem was, he said just to have my landlord call him.
But anyway, there are lots of lectricities running around in the wires, doing lots of work for me heating the apartment and cooling the fridge and making the lights go on. One of the two burners flips the circuit breaker (another problem for my landlord), but the other one is fine, so I made hot chocolate.
And took a three-hour nap. Feel much better now.
One thing that's come to my attention that you all should know about is that my phone has been non-working since the 4th; everything goes right to voicemail, and any sms's seem to send but I never see them. The reason is that I haven't paid my bill. This wasn't intentional, but rather was because I thought that they were going to automagically take money out of my bank account, but somehow that didn't happen. So, have to sort that out. Until then, email is the best way to reach me, via J's internet cafe/hostel he's been running for me.
Everything happens so slowly here...I'm so used to doing things immediately on the internets, but that's really not an option here.
I'm meeting N tonight and we're going to ferry at least some of my stuff from her house to mine.
Oh, and my brother and M are coming to visit at the end of this month! Yay. They're going to bring my air mattress, which will just fit in the floor space of my sitting/sleeping room. :)
