Sitting in my apartment...eating croissants...using the internet! Woke my parents up with a skype call and we talked for a long time. Skype is wonderful. You can talk to people over the internet for free. (You can call them on their phone for not much more than free; around 2 cents a minute for calls to US numbers. No, I'm not working for skype.)
I'd like to finally institute my "skype-imassho" (Japanese for 'let's skype') Sunday nights, so here's how to play.
(1) Have a computer with some way to listen to sounds (speakers, earphones, e.g.) and a microphone. In a pinch, you can plug earphones into the microphone jack and use them as a microphone.
(2) Go to skype.com, download the software for your kind of computer (PC or Mac or Linux) and set up a free account.
(3) Email me your skype account name and let me know if/when you'll be around Sunday, or if you'd like to talk to me some other time.
(4) Sunday at let's say 11pm my time (=5pm Eastern, 2pm Pacific), I will log on to skype and set up a conference call. If you're logged into skype then, something should pop up on your screen that you can click on, and you'll be skyping!
I'm hoping to make this a regular occurrence.
