Best talk ever

It was a wild few days, linguistically speaking. I was somewhat stressed out about my talk, especially after I discovered that error. And yes, it involved getting up early in the morning to fix it, but I fixed it, and ran to get copies of handouts made (with help from N the angelic, who stayed to pick up the copies while I went to my advisor's talk...not only is N someone I felt I could ask this favor of, but she seriously came through!).

In the end, it all went very well. How well did it go?

  • The projector and my slides just worked.
  • I had exactly the right amount of material to talk about.
  • There were many nodding heads, and the audience laughed or at least smiled at my jokes.
  • Questions were varied, interesting, and interested.
  • When I sat down, TS (from UCLA), sitting next to me, showed me something he had been thinking out for his talk later on, and it could make good use of the stuff I had been talking about with respect to causality; he said that we should keep talking about this stuff.
  • A philosopher from Jean-Nicod said that this stuff looked relevant to presupposition projection (sexy topic that I don't in the slightest work on). W00t!
  • Several people came up to me afterwards and said some variation on "Nice talk." Some had some specific helpful things to say, which is a sign of how precise I was able to be about my predictions.
  • Someone invited me to come give this talk at Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
  • My advisor thought it was a nice talk. :)

Perhaps best talk ever.
