My back and neck have (as I've mentioned) really been bothering me, and finally it drove me to the extraordinary measure of going for a run. I went along the Seine to the Pont Neuf, then back over the islands. It's quite long, and I couldn't even run half of it, but I made up for that with fast walking.
It's a beautiful route, except for the tourists and the pollution and the dog poop. Not that I'm complaining, though. At least the tourists and the dog poop are in complementary distribution. And after going to the Musée de Carnavalet the other day and seeing paintings of the area in previous centuries, it was nice to compare those with how things are now. They were working on the Pont Neuf, which despite the name is in fact the oldest bridge standing.
With the pollution and the chilly air it's going to be a few hours before I can breathe normally again, but it was well worth it.
