Happy St. Moppety's Day

It does happen to be my name day. Also Imbolc, if you're into the Celtic sort of thing.

Anyway, sorry (Mom) for not writing more lately. I got into the habit of not writing while I was in London, I think.

Yesterday I went in to help with the move... by now they should be ensconced in the new building, which I still haven't seen yet. Have been working on a number of things, including this.

I've been awfully tired lately, though there is starting to be more light. Mostly it has to do with pain. First, I need a proper way to deal with my feet. I thought what I needed was flat shoes, but I have come to the conclusion that I need more supportive shoes. I'm trying to find a place where they sell Danskos in Paris. They're Danish shoes, it shouldn't be that hard, but so far no luck.

Secondly, the combination of carrying my computer (though I try to do that less) and sitting working on my computer has really done a job on my neck, shoulders, upper back. As I try to strengthen, stretch, and massage those muscles, I think I've dismantled some of the tension, so that my neck really lets me know when it's unhappy. Which is good, I guess...but it means that the only comfortable way to work, really, is propped up on my futon couch, and when I can't do that, I really need a nap afterwards. I've entertained notions of starting running again, which would really help, but that depends on my feet. Until then, I'm making a hobby out of resting and doing my back exercises and the trigger point massage.

Thirdly, I think I do need glasses, but for reading, not for far vision. My brow is getting all furrowed all the time. I can focus on my computer screen, but it would be much, much nicer not to have to. I've been waiting to see a doctor until I get my social security card. I could see the doctor now but the paperwork will be a lot easier once my social security card comes. I might have to go anyway, though, if the card doesn't come soon.

Okay, as a reward for sitting through all my physical complaints, here are some photos from yesterday when I stopped off at the cathedral in St. Denis, where they've buried all the kings and queens. Really all of them, including Childeric and Clovis and Pepin le Bref and so forth.
On many of the tombs they have marble effegies like those pictured below.

It's quite incredible the range of styles of effigies from the 1100s to the 1800s. Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI are even in there, though it's not where they were buried originally.

Going out tonight with P and K, and A, to celebrate my saint's day...then two new dates over the weekend. Oh, the interesting guy in London...still very interesting, but I think he may be too manic for me. :)

Your D says it was his favorite cathedral studied in architecture class. May have to take a day trip to see it in March.

btw, you might want to check your code on that temptypac site -- i think the code page isn't set up right, so all those é (e accent acute) are coming out in Opera as Z with an upside-down circumflex and I don't even know what the name of that IS. i'm not sure what the quick fix is, particularly in word (which is embarassing because i should know the answer since i claim to teach this stuff) but seemed worth mentioning. you could replace them all with ampersand hash 233 semicolon, but that just seems grotty. stupid word. or stupid opera. or both.
