In a funk

Just in a bit of a funk this afternoon... listening to the soundtrack from Amélie and about to start reading about French verbs for the first time in ten years (my conjugating has been more like conjuguessing so far). Have managed to do a lot this week with the conference I'm planning, but everything is so slow. It'll be nice to put that away for a while and do more writing.

Tonight going to have dinner with colleague LR at the house of someone at IJN, an interdisciplinary intsitute in the 5th associated with ENS. I had asked LN to introduce me to these people, but she wasn't free, so LR invited me along to this dinner party. Must rally for that. He said I should bring wine, and so I went and got some, but I have no idea if it will be suitable. Buying wine for French people is like making tea for British people (which I eventually learned how to do, but would still hate to do it for the Queen, say).

Last night J-D and I were going to meet to go to an art exhibition with N; I texted him that we should meet on the platform at Gare de Lyon since we both take line 14 there on our commutes. He didn't get the message, but when I stepped out of the train there he was, just wondering if he should look for me! How bout that.

The exhibition was no big deal; didn't get to talk to N much, but it was nice to see her, albeit briefly.

Oh, and A found me a French speaker to trade French/English with, a woman who lives in my neighborhood.
