I had a lovely weekend again with J-D. (I think I will start calling him JD because that's what he signs himself as.) We went back to his friends' restaurant for a "blind test," that is, a name that tune kind of thing, where if you guess the song you win a glass of wine. It was fifties and sixties night... I really wished J had been there, because she knows all that Motown madness. Also, their lentil salad would really be up her alley. In the end I had to go outside and call her because the whole thing made me miss her a lot!
Today I was going to go back to work at St. Denis, but I got a call from C saying that there is a big strike, today and tomorrow, and so we won't be able to get into the university at all. Strike days are even better than snow days. I am at Place de la Madeleine, because I had a doctor's appointment there, and needing to get internet fast to send out the announcement that our afternoon talk was cancelled, I ended up paying five euros at a hotel to use the internet for half an hour. Not ideal, but the best I could do under the circumstances. After this I will run some errands and then go back home, or at least to my neighborhood to work.
Just to update on what is up with my eyes (I had the appointment with the orthoptiste on Friday): "Insuffisance de convergence. Yeux fatiguent à la fixation prolongée. Les axes visuels divergent. Le travail en commun des yeux est difficile à maintenir." The orthoptiste was very nice and I'm so, so glad she found something wrong because it's nice to know I'm not crazy. It'll be a few weeks before I can start going in to meet her for the eye training sessions with all the prisms and things, but she said I could wear the drugstore glasses when reading.
