Giverny

Today JD and I went out to Giverny, to see Monet's house and gardens. They were dreeeeamy...

I do enjoy doing portraits of flowers. (I miss my dad's wide-angle lens, though, that I used to use on his now-deceased slr.)

It's late in the season; JD says he's seen the lilypads looking better. Dunno, I thought they looked pretty good.

The light wasn't spectacular, but we did at least have sun. More photos of the garden in the usual place.

We didn't get to take photos inside the house, where the walls are bright blue and bright yellow, and there are numerous bad repros of Monet paintings, along with a host of Japanese woodcuts. Among the woodcuts were some that depicted foreigners, especially women dressed in a manner I associate with the (American) Civil War, which would be about right in terms of when Japan was opened up to foreigners.

We missed the bus that would have taken us to the 6pm train, and ended up taking the hour-long walk back to Vernon and noodling around there until the 9pm train. But we made it eventually.
