I just biked home in the rain from where I drop my bike off when I go to work, about a 20-minute ride.
I had to go in today for some talks. I had gone right from work to see my friends Tn and Mk (and Roscoe, of course). When we got out of our yummy crèpe dinner -- slightly crispy crèpes, very good -- it was raining. But I picked up my bike anyway and biked home in the wet. I'm in my flannel pajamas now and I am still cold! But warming up.
Biking is going well. It's really changed my life here. Not merely because I'm spending less time on the métro, though that is an agreeable side effect. It is getting me in shape, and making me happier. Also it connects the dots for me in the city. Some of the dots are spectacular, of course. The other day I rode past the Tuileries (the leaves are all yellow, it looks quite grand through the cast-iron fence), as well as the Jardin du Luxembourg, and both Saint Sulpice and Notre Dame basking in the sun. Not bad for schlepping around town. Certainly it beats going to the gym.
Tomorrow I was hoping to bike out to where JD lives, but there's a 90% chance of rain, so I guess I'll take the train after all.
