Rice in a foreign land

I just burned another pot of rice. I am seemingly incapable of making rice, having lived for so long with the convenience of a rice cooker. I just don't know how much water to put in.

On the package, it says to cook it like pasta -- that is, by putting a lot of water in the pot, and straining it once it is done. This is also the way that JD makes it. I think this is French way of making rice. Who knew? Seems easier, I think I'll try it next time. Too late for this time.
