One-train shopping!

I realized yesterday that I am actually not all that far from the Gare de Lyon. It's only about twice as far a walk as it is to Bastille (plus it's a more interesting walk than walking to Bastille...). What this means is...I can take one train to get to work. I did that today, leaving the house at 10, getting to the station around 15 minutes later, taking the 10:23 VICK train (VICK is my friend!) and getting into Saint Denis at 10:39, with a five-minute walk to the office. So civilized!

Other adventures in transport...

The other day my monthly card became demagnetized. By the time I figured this out, I was going to work in the morning at an entrance to Bastille where the office wasn't open yet. I tried to jump the turnstile -- very graceful I tell you in a knee-length skirt -- but that's why they have this door after the turnstile. Fortunately a nice woman coming along asked me if I would like to come in right behind her after she swiped her pass. Then at the Gare de Lyon I was able to get my pass replaced.

Today someone asked to stand behind me as I went through and I did it, as a kind of giving back to the universe. Though I don't really want to make a habit of that.

I've also discovered buses, thanks to a book with all the routes in it, and found out that there's a bus from Sully-Morland that stops right outside the Monoprix on Faubourg-St. Antoine in the 12th, just past Bastille. Yay! And last night, going from the 5th to the Bourse area in the 2nd, there was also a bus that did exactly the trick.
