Sitting down to work

Oh, at some point I will get back to blogging. But for now, I need to write this paper.

I'll just say, though, that last night I went with N (you know, the girl I stayed with initially) to hear my friend's soul/funk band on a barge in the Seine. It's always great to see N. Pretty cool to be on a boat, too, though whenever a bâteau-mouche went by, the barge swayed and I had to be careful not to look out the window. We were on the lower level, so that the water line was at about our waist. It got extremely crowded (Mom: it got as bad as the Gion Matsuri in Kyoto!); they need to play bigger venues. They really cook. Stevie, James Brown, and originals. Great rhythm section, great horn section, just a really tight ensemble. As N said, "They're so wonderful! They should be the best!"

And that ungrammatical use of should brings me back to my paper, so ta ta for now.
