Instead of blogging?
1. French boys. For some reason they really are all mostly French at the moment. Went to hear the band of a guy off friendster who I hadn't yet met in person, tonight. N came with me; I hadn't seen her in a while but now that I work on campus we are going to try to have lunch every week. Met the guy and looking forward to meeting him again. Funny to meet someone through their songs first. (Also: I may have mentioned this, but I find it always surprises me to hear bands sing in English and then stop and say "merci, merci!") Another date with J-D tomorrow afternoon.
2. Free museums. I had accidentally (ahem) spent most of my spending money for last week by Sunday morning (the financial week, for me, turns over Saturday morning), so thank goodness that municipal museums in Paris are by and large free. I had been wanting to make good on my resolution to see more of cultural Paris, so aside from the Musée Carnavalet (going back there tomorrow with J-D) I went to the Willy Ronis exhibition at the Hôtel de Ville with A. It involved standing out in the cold -- the exhibition closes next week and everyone wants to see it -- but it was really lovely. Photographs of Paris and Parisians, by a man who obviously has a real interest in people as well as in light and shadow and all those mid-century artistic pursuits. And afterwards we went for hot chocolate.
3. Biofeedback. No really. Biofeedback. I got a computer game (thanks, gfav, for mailing it to me!) that has a biofeedback device that measures your...heart rate variability? and your skin conductivity, and thus you can measure, essentially, yin energy and yang energy, though I'm not exactly sure what corresponds to what. And I have very little ability to discriminate subjectively between the two, which is why I was interested in biofeedback in the first place. I find it very hard to generate the yang energy (that's the get up and go energy), something that should not be surprising to those who know me well. But what's funny is that when I yawn, my yang energy gets a brief boost. So when I'm yawning a lot (as I do during the first part of a yoga class, for instance) it's to increase my yang energy. Anyway, a lot to play with.
