Sunshine at last, meetings, Sabres

Yesterday when I woke up it was finally sunny. And today too, a clear sky. After several weeks of this on-again off-again rain and clouds, this is great. It's still not incredibly warm out, but that's all right.

I met with C the other day about the conference I'm planning, and so things are going ahead. It was nice to have a longer meeting with him. What I had done last time was to give him a memo with all the things I wanted to talk about, and that worked very nicely. It did mean that on Friday morning, instead of working, I had to go to a talk of RVV's (because it was for a group who we might want to get involved with the funding proposal to the CNRS, so I needed to show up and meet the person who runs the group)... but I survived. :)

The other day, walking around in the 14th, I saw a guy wearing a Buffalo Sabres shirt! I asked him about it, but I'm not sure he spoke any English. So I just said, "Buffalo Sabres?" pointing to the shirt, and told him it was my hometown. I hear they lost the other night. Actually I heard this from RVV after his talk. They needed to win to get into the playoffs, but they had a lot of injuries and so they couldn't pull it off. :(

Sabres: Four of the five regular defensemen were out with injuries. Still had a 2-3 game in the third until the goalie was pulled at the end and Carolina scored an empty net goal. A crowd showed up at the airport at 1:00am to welcome the team home. What a town. Now if we could just get them to feel the same way about the arts!
