Customer service

Oft have I wondered exactly what it is I have to do in this country to get actual real live customer service. Turns out, the answer is, buy a name-brand purse.

Yeah, I bought a purse at les soldes, just like last year, though this time I was ready for it ahead of time. I had been eyeing my favorite purse (the brand is Sequoia) at BHV. The first day of the sales, I went there in the late afternoon, and the purse was already gone! Oh nooooo! Also gone at Printemps and Galeries Lafayette.

The next day, though, I found it at the boutique store in the rue Francs-Bourgeois. Woo hooooo! And, 30% off... such a deal! There were the two sizes and a number of different colors. I settled on the larger size because I discovered I could fit my computer inside.

If I may rhapsodize for a moment... the rings look a little funny but when you put the bag on your shoulder, you realize that the rings provide balance... it feels good. And it's like one of those healthy back bags, in that the weight inside feels a lot lighter than it should.

Okay, back to the customer service. When I bought the purse, the salesperson said there was a 1-year warranty, and gave me the slip for that. A week later the stitching around the snap came out. Today I finally got the chance to go back to the shop. The salesperson recognized me (!), said I didn't need to give her the slip, and said that it was too bad she didn't have the same model in the store, she would have just given it to me, because it would take a few weeks to get my purse repaired. But, she said, she would call the regional rep and see if they had one, and she took my number, to call me on Monday.

I can't stress enough how weird this all is in France! But I'm very pleased.

Maybe the service answer is to shop at boutiques?
