Just because you hear voices doesn't mean they're in your head

Back in the states now. I figure it's the jet lag talking, but for I think the first time I'm missing Paris a little, now that I'm sitting in a to-remain-nameless east coast naeroport, waiting (waiting, waiting) for my connecting flight.

To be precise, I've always missed my friends in Paris when I'm not there, but this time I actually miss living there.

Maybe it's just that I don't feel the overwhelming sense of relief I used to feel on coming back to Anglophonia, which would be a sign that my French is improving. Or maybe I'm just finding it a nuisance to be able to understand effortlessly all the ambient conversations around me... I'm feeling like an inside-out schizophrenic.

that seems to be a common thing among expats.

i know whenever i go back to the states i cannot think, because the background noise is so distracting!
