So...after hearing it from my brother for years, and some insightful comments by friends at the conference, I am Making the Switch.
That's right. My next computer is a Mac. D's going to bring it when he comes.
The deal-clincher: I can commute with just my external hard drive, so I'm not going to worry so much about how much the laptop weighs. The point is that it won't break every twelve months (I hope).

not that it makes SO much difference, phenomenologically speaking, these days.
