Radio silence and the breaking thereof

Hi guys. Well, I haven't posted in a while. Sorry about that. Things have been fairly busy around here and once I get into a habit of not posting, I continue not to post.

When last we left our heroine, she was about to celebrate Thanksgiving, which she did on two occasions, once on the day with Tn and Mk (and Roscoe!) and JD, and a second time that Saturday with colleague JG and her family and friends. Before that, I gave a little talk in my French class about Thanksgiving, which went very well. I passed out cornbread and cranberries (had to tell them to eat the dried sweetened ones, not the raw one!), and showed them Z's beautiful drawing of a turkey that my mom had sent me in a fantastic care package.

On the day of, I was responsible for the turkey, which I cooked in my language partner Ar's oven, since she actually has a real kitchen. :) I also had made or was about to make sweet potato balls, stuffing, cranberry sauce and an apple pie. Tn and Mk and Roscoe picked me up in their car and we drove through the rush hour traffic to their house... I was suddenly Roscoe's very best friend, since I was sitting there with a turkey on my lap! But she was a good dog.

Anyway, it was a fun time. We made JD trace his hand to draw a turkey, since it was his first Thanksgiving and he had never done it before. I hope you will agree that it is a very fine hand turkey.

Now everything is Christmasy here, though. I've been doing a lot of shopping, and will post later some cameraphone pix from around town (including a Christmas tree with bagels on it, from one of my bakeries in the Marais). I'm leaving on the 15th to spend a couple of days in Boston, then home for Christmas, and to NYC for a week with mon frère and ma belle-soeur. And... :) JD is coming with me for the whole trip! I never really announced on the blog when we stopped seeing each other over the summer (how does one announce such a thing?) but we're seeing each other again, and it's great, and I get to take him home with me, so a sizeable portion of my readership will get to meet him.

Probably the best way for me and J to honor JD's visit is in the style of the movie "Better off Dead."

We can serve French specialties like French fries, French toast, and "Peru."
